ReplyDeleteYou know what Dave, that's a good question. Now that we're a few months down the road, what do you think of what has happened? I believe firmly that there are plenty of folks who want him to fail because of his ethnicity. As you no doubt know, I'm not a big fan, but I am seldom a big fan of elected officials.
DeleteYou will need to clarify your statement , "I'm not a big fan ." ( of Obama ?) Do you have more of a problem with him because he's black ?? It's very evident that our country has a certain demographic , who are practically unquantifiable (by numbers)... who have been educated and conditioned by American society and culture , to dilike/hate/distrust black skin .
DeleteGreetings all, the conversation on gun control must include the removal of all assault style weapons from gun shows and the like. Effective back ground cks at gun shows and via internet sells is also a must.

DeleteWe agree that effective background checks are vital to protecting us from the sort of random violence we saw rip the nation apart last year, and for some, the gun show "loophole" is in fact a hole you could drive a Mack Truck though, but the day-to-day death and destruction which comes from gun violence may require a different response. So many folks leave guns loaded and out where kids can get to them. I don't think any of us feels like we have "the answer", but we sure do agree that the current situation isn't protecting us as well as it could.
I am encouraged by the President's response to this unfortunate issue. It took Congress 12 years to act after James Brady was shot in 1981, in the attempted assassination on then PResident Ronald Reagan by John Hinkle. The Brady Bill was signed by President Clinton in Feb, 1994. Let's hope it doens't take 12-13 years to address this issue this time.
ReplyDeleteLevius, now that we're a few months distant from the killings, we seem to be no closer to making the sorts of changes we need to make. We must address the culture of violence in our nation.
DeleteThe FBI has stated that the Brady bill did nothing to stop crime. These gun bills have nothing to do with stopping crime. The gov of Colorado admitted that the bill wouldn't stop crime either. These are being used to take our rights away.
