Big Banks skate on drug money laundering charges

When a kid gets busted selling a joint, she may face serious consequences. College scholarships may be denied, family may be kicked out of their homes and there may be stiff fines to pay. Passing a bad check can do the same. So why can HSBC get away with laundering drug money and UBS can get away with manipulating the LIBOR financing system with little more than a slap on the wrist?

The "Law of supply and demand" says that when the supply of something is reduced, but the demand is not limited, then the price will tend to rise. This higher price leads to the development of alternatives to the product which is expensive as people run to get in on the high prices. But what about when supply and/or demand are manipulated by corporate or governments powers? Do we actually have an energy crisis, or do we have a crisis of energy supply being manipulated by non-market forces?

Welcome to the New Austerity. Back in the 1960s there was hope that the "New Left" or the "New Politics" would save us from the environmental damage that international war and corporate capitalism had caused. A new feeling of freedom and interdependence would fill the human spirit, ending hunger, war and racism.

Today all the talk is about belt tightening. From France to Greece workers and students are marching against austerity, but is anyone marching for what we WANT?

Finally, South Korea's new Prime Minister is a woman. Great Britain, Australia, India, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Liberia, Ecuador, Brazil and dozens more have elected women to lead their nations. How is a nation governed differently under a woman leader, and why is the United States not on the list of governments to be led by women?

Violence & Hollywood: Networks now airing disclaimers for violent programming

Join the SC Occupy crew as they analyze and give their thoughts and opinions on the following stories of the day.

The entertainment industry is now airing disclaimers before violent programming in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut.

According to the AP, The Connecticut school shooting rampage compelled Hollywood to air disclaimers before violent television shows, swap some programs for others, cancel film openings and present somber specials on daytime TV shows that are usually more focused on entertainment.

Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye died on Monday at age 88. Inouye had represented Hawaii in Congress since it was forced to join the union, Inouye waa a decorated World War Two veteran who lost one of his arms during battle died on Monday at age 88.

President Talabani of Iraq in coma. The USA invested lives, brought death and money to leave President 'Talabani' in office, and he has a stroke? A veteran of the Kurdish guerrilla movement, Mr. Talabani, 79, is Iraq's first president from the ethnic group that mainstream media reports say were gassed with chemical weapons Saddam Hussein bought from the United States government to kill Iranians.

According to US News, A South Carolina lawmaker has proposed an unenforceable bill to jail any state or federal official trying to implement “Obamacare” in the state.

Pursuing an archaic legal theory that punctuated pre-Civil War disputes between the federal government and states, South Carolina state Rep. Bill Chumley last week pre-filed a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would criminalize implementation of President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare reform law.

SC Governor appoints Black conservative

Gov Haley selects the replacement senator for South Carolina. Some are asking was her selection based on race or Tim Scott’s very Tea Party brand of politics, a republican representative from Charleston, was this decision based on race?

President Obama spoke on the Connecticut school massacre last night and said it is up to us to decide what we can do to protect a child. He also said “We’re not doing enough. And we will have to change.” Now a US Senator is looking to ban assault weapons sparking the perpetual  gun control debate.

Have the tragic shootings distracted America from the fiscal cliff debate, what is the latest news on the impending automatic cuts.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said gay people should not be killed or persecuted, as MPs continue to consider a controversial Anti-Homosexuality Bill that calls for the death penalty.

Oregon Shooter ID'd. Mother/Daughter Porn ?

News topics for tonight's broadcast of Occupy The Microphone:

Oregon shooter identified as well as his victims. Police said 22 yr old Jacob Tyler Roberts shot himself and died from his wound in a press conference today. Local law enforcement credited training they had to address this exact situation prevented more deaths. Is this type of terrorism being all to common? Are lone wolf types with rifles shooting up public places more likely to strike than Al-Qeada? What are you more worried about?

A 22 yr old cited a poor economy as the reason she got into making porn movies and now she has recruited her mother who plan to make a film together in the same scene hoping to cash in. The two have actually had real life practice she boasts. Is there a moral decline in America or is this acceptable mother/daughter activity in the 21stCentury?

Fox News has renewed its anti “Ground-Zero Mosque” campaign in New Yorkagain recycling old material this time with Donald Trump offering to buy the space. Of course Trump is no stranger to controversy and why he is considered to be on the right wing lunatic fringe. Has your feelings changed since the last Fox campaign to stop the “Ground-Zero Mosque”?

North Koreanswere reportedly celebrating after launching a satellite into orbit. This technological achievement is being described as proactive by western media and the UN is said to be mulling over a response. The U.S. military just launched its own classified space mission said to involve an unmanned miniature space shuttle. Is that a provocative act and should North Koreabe placed under more sanctions?

Netanyahu is accusing the international community of double standards

Israel's prime minister on Monday accused the international community of "deafening silence" in response to recent vows by the head of the Hamas militant group to fight on until the Jewish state is destroyed, and appeared unmoved by the gathering storm of global condemnation of his government's plans to continue settling the West Bank.

Bar owner Frank Schnarr suggests area stoners grab a booth

Thanks to a successful ballot initiative last month, Washington state residents can legally smoke marijuana in the privacy of their living rooms as of Thursday. When that gets old, bar owner Frank Schnarr suggests, area stoners have another option: grab a booth at Frankie's Sports Bar & Grill in Olympia and toke up there.

Ted Nugent, the Rock and Roll Slimeball
Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Gene Simmons, Meatloaf...how in the world did these (and other rock stars) turn out so conservative, and how do we respond to it?

Drink This!
In Alice in Wonderland, Alice drank from a vial labeled "Drink this", but there was nothing which said "Rub this below your equator." But in a North Carolina prison it was decided that inmates should drink Habenero hot sauce and then put it on their genitals to entertain the guards.

STRIKE!
Dock workers in California are on strike and the War Resisters League gives a peace prize to dock workers in Egypt who refused to ship US made poison gasses to a war zone.

Tax & spend or borrow & spend?
As we rush towards the so called "fiscal cliff" we talk about taxes, spending, and priorities for real people. Meanwhile, the Mayor of Newark NJ begins a week on food stamps.

Pushing and shoving for education
In Greenville SC parents were lined up to enroll their children in an elementary school with a special focus on engineering. When the bell rang these parents rushed the school doors, injuring at least one parent.

We haven't had a white man as Secretary of State since 1997. Now President Obama is said to be preparing to nominate Susan Rice to be Sec of State. The SoS will decide whether the Trans-Canada pipeline will be built. Shouldn't that be decided by old white men?

Help restore the AFSC Friend of a Friend project in Maryland - 8:00pm est

Dominque Stevenson is the Baltimore Director of American Friends Service Committee and helps to implement their Friend of a Friend mentoring project which operates in three sites in Maryland. This program has been highly spoken of by Political prisoner Marshall "Eddie" Conway the former Black Panther who has served more than 40 years in prison after being framed by the FBI’s COINTEL program that sought to eliminate Black Panther leadership by means which included false criminal charges and even assassination of Panther members.

The Maryland Secretary of Public Safety & Correctional Services Gary D. Maynard unfairly suspended the FOF project reportedly over a harmless incident involving a floppy disk and their reasoning does not make much sense at all so hopefully Ms. Stevenson can help us understand what is going on and what we can do to help.

News of the Day - 11/28/2012

Topics:

President Obama welcomed Mexico's president-elect, Enrique Peña Nieto, to the White House on Tuesday for the first meeting in what both leaders said they hope will be a productive relationship. “We meet early with the president of Mexico because it represents the close relationship between the U.S. and Mexico,” Obama said in the Oval Office as he met with Peña Nieto, whose inauguration is on Saturday.

President Obama will also be having lunch with Mitt Romney stating he likes some of the defeated Republicans ideals on how to run the country.

Fox News has hit back at author Tom Ricks for blasting the network during an on-air interview as “operating as a wing of the Republican Party” and accusing it of hyping the Benghazi attack, saying he “apologized in our offices afterward but doesn’t have the strength of character to do that publicly. Ricks denied that he had apologized.

Major tobacco companies that spent decades denying they lied to the U.S. public about the dangers of cigarettes must spend their own money on a public advertising campaign saying they did lie, a federal judge ruled on Tuesday.

The fiscal cliff: Who is pushing us off and why?
In the first segment we look at the so-called "fiscal cliff" and worries that European problems will become our problems. But what if it's all smoke and mirrors?

How shall we protest?
Dairy farmers in Europe are spraying Parliament with milk they produce at a loss. Four students in Tibet have burned themselves alive in protests. With political leaders in the US believing they are firmly back in control post-election, what is next for "we, the people"? Is Occupy a spent force? Should we all pool our money and buy our own politicians?

It's the power stupid
We'll look at Uruguan President Jose Mujica, said to be the world's poorest head of state. Why do so many world leaders come from the wealthy class, or wind up very rich after serving their nation? Are we underestimating the value of the graft?

Telling Grover to take a hike
Senator Lindsay Graham of South Carolina has said he's willing to agree to a tax rise for spending cuts in "entitlements", effectively telling Grover Norquist to take a long walk on a short pier. Graham joins Rep. King of New York and Senator Chambliss of Georgia. Is this principal, or real-politik by Graham and friends?

Can the Tea Party & Occupy Movements set aside differences? - 8:30 PM EST

Is there any common ground for Occupy & Tea Party Groups to work on bipartisan issues? Gregg Jocoy, Green Party member wonders if there is some common ground between the two groups.

The Petraeus Affair? The CIA Head busted for cheating on his wife, how does this happen? Could this possibly evolve into a honey pot spy operation, a tryst gone

Why does the media focus so much on financial issues that have no effect on real peoples. With TV and Radio shows all over the airwaves, are they really sharing useful information.

Is Mitt Romney giving aid and comfort to the enemy?

Daisy accuses Mitt Romney and his Republican cohorts of treason and offering aid and comfort to the enemy. By criticizing Obama before he or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had even issued a statement, Romney breaks the bonds which should bring us together. Daisy asks, if liberals had done this after the attack on the World Trade Center, would FOX News be supporting them like they are supporting Romney?

Also, Daisy explains the differences between Neo-Conservatives, Paleo-Conservatives and Conservatives...or as she explains it, "Coyboys and Yankees" and William F. Buckley. Toss in some Trotsky, stir and you have Daisy's lesson on the three branches of what we call "conservative".

TOPICS

Daisy takes a South Carolina Green look at the Republican Nominating Convention with special attention to the role played by her governor, Nikki Haley. Governor Haley pointed to her voter suppression efforts, which will disenfranchise between 175,000 and 200,000 South Carolinian, to thunderous applause. Daisy talks about the "Brown Washing" of the RNC with the placement of the Puerto Rican delegation in a prominent position with TV cameras rolling.

In the next segment Daisy, Gregg and Double A discuss Paul Ryan, his role as cheerleader for the TARP plan, other corporate and bank bail outs, and wonder aloud just how the TEA Party is "in control" of the Republican Party when they got two politicians who have supported so much the TEA Party opposed at the top of their ticket.

In the final segment Daisy discusses the Republican "We Built It" theme, and the group tosses in all sorts of Green Party, Congressional and Occupy news, including a Labor Day celebration Monday, September 3rd, 5 PM, at Piazza Bergamo, located at the corner of Coffee and Main Street in downtown Greenville, SC. Roots of Republican Rape Definitions - 9:00 AM EST

www.StatCounter.com/myspace/ - Free myspace Profile Counter

"When Todd Akin said that women didn't get pregnant if they were "legitimately raped", Daisy knew she had heard this sort of insanity before. Using her vast knowledge of all things feminist she unearthed another Republican, this time in South Dakota, who has his own definition of "real rape". This ultimately leads Daisy to discuss Ayn Rand's rape scene in "The Fountainhead", and the way her self-first philosophy guides today's most extreme Republican leaders.

Daisy is joined by Gregg, who explains how the Green Party defines feminism, and Double A, who shares insights about Rand, Christianity and reminds us all that The Daisy Deadhead Show is THE place to go for the latest cultural news.

This program is hosted by Daisy Deadhead of Daisy's Dead Air blog and Gregg Jocoy of the South Carolina Green Party which sponsors the show.

Assange, Ryan & Rand

Memories are our mental records of history. Photos can help us recall memories. In this week's episode of The Daisy Deadhead Show Daisy and Gregg talk about the importance of holding on to memories and photographs so we can create our own history. "Please put your photos and memories online." Daisy says.

Julian Assange is in the headlines again. The founder of Wikileaks was granted political asylum by Ecuador but not so fast. The British government is threatening to revoke Ecuador’s embassy status and take Assange by force.

Daisy exposes the basis of the political ideology of Republican VP nominee Paul Ryan. Ryan greatly admires Ayn Rand who was an author among other things and she thought selfishness was required for society to prosper and was the highest virture one could attain. An ardent atheist, Rand even went so far as to reject William F. Buckley's hand in friendship because he, like Ryan, was an avid Roman Catholic.

Finally they get into what would seem to be the final curtain in the battle to save the Mauldin open Air Market from the state DOT's plans to put in a turn lane where none is needed.

The show exploits a little girl who is overweight and her "redneck" family. Daisy and the crew will also tackle Mitt Romney, healthcare, the trickle up economy and Occupy Greenville.

How to reach out to GPATS members and help protect the Mauldin Open Air Market

On today's show we said we would place the addresses of all the members of GPATS on the show's website so you can contact the members if you wanted to do so. The hope is that some of you will write these people and ask them to oppose any SC DOT plans to take Joel Ann Chandler's land away from her. Joel Ann owns the Mauldin Open Air Market, a land mark business on one of the main roads leading to Mauldin.

There are three "paragraphs" below. The first if a list of links to forms you must use to contact our state legislators. Apparently they don't want you to contact them directly, so you'll have to do this one at a time. I suspect that is designed to keep from the "regular people" from bothering them.

The second is a list of the email contacts for other GPATS members. Simply copy this list, and paste it into your email's "addresses" space.

The last is the basic message we hope to get to GPATS members. Simply copy the paragraph below the list of addresses, paste it into the body of the legislative contact form or the body of your email, make any changes you want to make, and hit "send". To get more details on GPATS' plans for the Mauldin Open Air Market, click here. To read what Daisy has written about the situation, at her blog. All links will open in a new tab or page automatically.

Dear GPATS Member,

I am writing you today to ask you to oppose any plans proposed by the Department of Transportation or GPATS staff which would put the Mauldin Open Air Market at risk by using eminent domain to seize Joel Ann Chandler's land for a proposed turn lane. The turn lane would serve a very limited purpose, while the entire community benefits from the Mauldin Open Air Market. A community land mark known far and wide, the market serves as a place where customer and producer meet, with Joel Ann and her staff as the perfect go-between. Please respect her property rights, and be wiser with our tax dollars. Leave her land exactly where it belongs, in her family.

Yours,

A Voter

Chick-Fil-A, Jack Schaap & GPAT's abuse of power

Tune in 9:00 AM EST

On this week's episode of The Daisy Deadhead Show, Daisy and Gregg talk about the boycott of Chick-Fil-A and traditional marriage.

Who is Jack Schaap? He is not another preacher in trouble over having sex with a young member of his flock is he? Rev. Jack Schaap pastors the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church, and Hyles-Anderson College and pictures found on his cell phone may bring him down.

Finally we go back and discuss GPATS' plan to grab Joel Ann Chandler's land away from her to create a turn lane where none is needed.

Colorado Shootings, The good, bad and ugly of the Olympic Games

As the Olympic Games get going in London, Daisy and Gregg discuss the legacy of past Olympic Games. From the heroic stand taken by John Carlos, Tommie Smith and Peter Norman in 1968 to the killing of Israeli athletes in 1972 to the taxpayer funded venues which rot from Beijing to Athens, The Daisy Deadhead Show looks at things a little bit differently.
