Support for Dr. Cornel West grows amid attacks

TOPICS
When Cornel West and Tavis Smiley took President Obama to task for putting the needs of the poor on the back burner to bail out banks and international corporations, they caught a LOT of flack. Michael Eric Dyson is but one example of a Black intellectual taking on folks who demand more from Obama. Now a Facebook group has been set up to promote, support and defend Dr. West.

New reports seem to indicate that DNA may soon be used as part of a computer's operations. From a number of sources we find out about and discuss what role synthetic DNA may play in computer storage.

FBI Documents Reveal Secret Nationwide Occupy Monitoring. Fearing what they don't control, the Federal Government established a strike force to monitor and suppress Occupy Wall Street. At least one government agency worked in concert with the big banks which were the target of OWS to stop the occupations which had spread across the nation.

Finally, Duke Energy, owner of numerous nuclear power plants across the nation, has called a "meeting with concerned local residents" after it is revealed that the fire suppression systems they had been directed to establish by the NRC at the Oconee power plant had never been completed. When Duke asked for yet another extension they were turned down. Now what?

France invades Mali, Arrest Warrant for Pakistan PM, Revolutionary art and Slavery

Former colonial power France invades Mali to oust "Islamists". The US and European powers will provide technical help and specialized troops, and will likely control African troops being deployed in the wake of French bombing. Is this the next war for the Global War Machine?

In Pakistan the Supreme Court has called for the arrest of the Prime Minister on corruption charges while the government says it can not give in to demands being made by masses in street protests. Is yet another ally headed to disaster?

What does it mean when revolutionary art becomes popular art? Spain dedicates a street named Plaza Joe Strummer in Granada.

Finally, we return to discuss the 13th amendment. Legalized slavery, here in the US? Tune in to find out.

Mass shooting maps, Gun bans, suicides and supressed petitions

 9:00PM EST

Mother Jones sets up an interactive map of mass shootings in the United States. Back in 1997 four people were killed in a mass murder in Aiken South Carolina, so this hits close to home for us.

The governor of New York has signed new gun control laws, and Obama is suggesting that he may be looking for something he can do without congressional approval. Will the courts reject these new laws or uphold their liberal interpretation of the 2nd amendment passed only a few years ago?

One governor not inclined to pass gun control laws is Arizona governor Jan Brewer, even though six people including a child were gunned down in Tuscon more than a year ago. That doesn't mean she's not looking for some sweet sweet Federal Government Healthcare Dollars.

Aaron Swartz was harassed and hounded to death by the federal intelligence services  killing himself by hanging last week. The prosecutor in his case was involved in another prosecution leading to suicide.

Finally, does the White House suppress petitions it doesn't like?

Drug Addicts vs. Rapists

Potheads vs. Rapists
Detroit prosecutors stumble across warehouse full of unprocessed rape kits and sadly this is not an uncommon occurrence. Many State crime labs have a backlog of unprocessed rape kits because they lack funds and manpower. With all we are spending as a nation on the drug war and locking up drug addicts, who would you rather see loose on the street, potheads or rapists?

Hagel likely to be appointed Sec of Defense
Chuck Hagel is a libertarian leaning Republican, decorated vetreran of Viet Nam, with a less than spotless record. He criticized the Bush Administration on several issues, including American gaining a bad reputation world wide because of Guantanamo Bay. Although he supported Obamas NDAA, he denounced pro-Israel lobbyist and stated he was a representative of the US, not Israel.

Hobby Lobby Day
Mike Huckabee declared Jan 5 to be Hobby Lobby Day because they have been defiant concerning implementation of Obamacare. When corporations flex political muscle, does it hurt them? Huckabee did this for Hobby Lobby because they are being scoffed at by many Americans who are pro-Obamacare. We saw a similar action to bail out Chick-fil-a because of their support of hate groups and anti-gay terrorist overseas. Is this Republican contrived depiction that 'we are the party of Christian values' driving a wedge between people of faith and the secular population?

LukeWarm Liberals
Many Democrats claim to be liberal, but don't want to be seen as overly zealous or too left-leaning. Can you really organize a rally or tribute to Treyvon Martin without focusing in on the broader issue of racism? Can you spotlight this case while standing silent about a pattern that has long been repeated in America?

Our top stories of 2012

Join us at 8:30pm est for our first broadcast of 2013 as we review our top four news stories or issues of 2012.

Of course The Occupy Movement was big as Daisy, Gregg and Alex all took part in the Occupy Movement. Gregg has a pending court case because of activities related to the Occupy Greenville movement.

In 2012 we saw the re-election of President Obama in a heated and expensive campaign against Mitt Romney that produced some memorable moments like Romney's comments about the 40% of American's he claimed do not pay any taxes and were looking for handouts from President Obama.

There were a number of high profile cases of violence from Trayvon Martin to the Sandy Hook massacre of little children. These cases have provoked debate on Stand Your Ground Laws and Gun Control.

And our last story is about false economies which involved bank bail outs, fiscal cliffs and tax debates.
