Big Banks skate on drug money laundering charges

When a kid gets busted selling a joint, she may face serious consequences. College scholarships may be denied, family may be kicked out of their homes and there may be stiff fines to pay. Passing a bad check can do the same. So why can HSBC get away with laundering drug money and UBS can get away with manipulating the LIBOR financing system with little more than a slap on the wrist?

The "Law of supply and demand" says that when the supply of something is reduced, but the demand is not limited, then the price will tend to rise. This higher price leads to the development of alternatives to the product which is expensive as people run to get in on the high prices. But what about when supply and/or demand are manipulated by corporate or governments powers? Do we actually have an energy crisis, or do we have a crisis of energy supply being manipulated by non-market forces?

Welcome to the New Austerity. Back in the 1960s there was hope that the "New Left" or the "New Politics" would save us from the environmental damage that international war and corporate capitalism had caused. A new feeling of freedom and interdependence would fill the human spirit, ending hunger, war and racism.

Today all the talk is about belt tightening. From France to Greece workers and students are marching against austerity, but is anyone marching for what we WANT?

Finally, South Korea's new Prime Minister is a woman. Great Britain, Australia, India, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Liberia, Ecuador, Brazil and dozens more have elected women to lead their nations. How is a nation governed differently under a woman leader, and why is the United States not on the list of governments to be led by women?

Violence & Hollywood: Networks now airing disclaimers for violent programming

The entertainment industry is now airing disclaimers before violent programming in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut.

According to the AP, The Connecticut school shooting rampage compelled Hollywood to air disclaimers before violent television shows, swap some programs for others, cancel film openings and present somber specials on daytime TV shows that are usually more focused on entertainment.

A veteran of the Kurdish guerrilla movement, Mr. Talabani, 79, is Iraq's first president from the ethnic group that mainstream media reports say were gassed with chemical weapons Saddam Hussein bought from the United States government to kill Iranians.

According to US News, A South Carolina lawmaker has proposed an unenforceable bill to jail any state or federal official trying to implement “Obamacare” in the state.

Pursuing an archaic legal theory that punctuated pre-Civil War disputes between the federal government and states, South Carolina state Rep. Bill Chumley last week pre-filed a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would criminalize implementation of President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare reform law.

SC Governor appoints Black conservative

Gov Haley selects the replacement senator for South Carolina. Some are asking was her selection based on race or Tim Scott’s very Tea Party brand of politics, a republican representative from Charleston, was this decision based on race?

President Obama spoke on the Connecticut school massacre last night and said it is up to us to decide what we can do to protect a child. He also said “We’re not doing enough. And we will have to change.” Now a US Senator is looking to ban assault weapons sparking the perpetual  gun control debate.

Have the tragic shootings distracted America from the fiscal cliff debate, what is the latest news on the impending automatic cuts.

Oregon shooter identified as well as his victims. Police said 22 yr old Jacob Tyler Roberts shot himself and died from his wound in a press conference today. Local law enforcement credited training they had to address this exact situation prevented more deaths. Is this type of terrorism being all to common? Are lone wolf types with rifles shooting up public places more likely to strike than Al-Qeada? What are you more worried about?

A 22 yr old cited a poor economy as the reason she got into making porn movies and now she has recruited her mother who plan to make a film together in the same scene hoping to cash in. The two have actually had real life practice she boasts. Is there a moral decline in America or is this acceptable mother/daughter activity in the 21stCentury?

Fox News has renewed its anti “Ground-Zero Mosque” campaign in New Yorkagain recycling old material this time with Donald Trump offering to buy the space. North Koreanswere reportedly celebrating after launching a satellite into orbit. This technological achievement is being described as proactive by western media and the UN is said to be mulling over a response. The U.S. military just launched its own classified space mission said to involve an unmanned miniature space shuttle. Is that a provocative act and should North Koreabe placed under more sanctions?

Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Gene Simmons, Meatloaf...how in the world did these (and other rock stars) turn out so conservative, and how do we respond to it?
