Popular Support for Medicaid expansion in Southern Red States

5:00PM EST

A recent poll finds popular support for Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act in the Deep South Red States. However, the representatives in those states, including South Carolina, are dead set against the expansion regardless of the wishes of their constituents. McClatchy reports, "Even though governors and lawmakers in five Deep South states oppose a plan to cover more people through Medicaid under the health care overhaul, 62 percent of the people in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina support expanding the program, according to a new poll."

Yesterday we reported on the tragic shooting of Amos G. Smith back in March, a 26 yr-old man who was shot by Union City police in the back of the head. We also reported that in a span of less than 27 hours, police in the California Bay Area shot and killed four young men, three of which are confirmed to be African-Americans. Today we were able to catch up with Attorney John Burris who represents the families of two of the men shot by police including the family of Amos G. Smith.

We have been following the case of Jodi Arias who was convicted of shooting and stabbing her boyfriend and whose case is in the death penalty phase. We will provide you with the latest updates and an update on the US House of Representatives who vote today on taking the Keystone Pipeline decision out of President Obama’s hands.
