John McCain: Going Rogue

Senator John McCain, the former failed 2008 presidential candidate seems to be taking on the title of a book by his former failed running mate Sarah Palin, Going Rogue: An American Life. From funding Contra death squads in the 80s, meeting with Al Qeada affiliates in Libya and Syria to now writing op-eds in Russian newspapers, the Senator from Arizona has a history of going rogue.

In what is called “quantitative easing”, the Fed chairman Ben Bernanke announced that the Federal Reserve will continue to purchase bank bonds at a tune of $85 billion per month to keep the economy stimulated. This sent stocks soaring to a record high Wednesday. In related news, Naked Capitalism wrote a piece yesterday that says while it is a relief that Larry Summers has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the next Federal Reserve chairperson, Yves Smith says you should not be enthusiastic about Janet Yellen.

In local news, we reported the controversy surrounding the racist vitriol hurled at the new Miss America through social media but a smaller controversy erupted when Miss South Carolina made a joke in her remarks about 20% of South Carolinians living in mobile homes because that’s how we roll. Ms. Brooke Mosteller is now apologizing for those remarks.
