Critics are questioning the recent appointment of former US attorney Mary Jo White to head the SEC. She also worked at the law firm Debevoise and Plimpton defending Wall Street banksters and was involved in past scandals at the SEC. Others are looking at the appointment as par for course for the Obama administration, which just like Mitt Romney's campaign, was funded by Wall Street.
The state of Washington has issued a press release announcing a "Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Bureau of Land Management". What does it mean?
Speaking of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, a town hall meeting was held in Plymouth, Massachusetts over concerns about the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, which sits very near to the coast on the Atlantic Ocean. A federal appeals court in February rejected state Attorney General Martha Coakley's legal challenge to the relicensing the facility noting and Coakley said the NRC has not considered the disaster that occurred at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant in Japan. Waste and Debris escaped into the ocean from the plant after it suffered damage resulting from an earthquake in 2011.
