The Arms Trade Treaty w/ Cynthia McKinney

Tune in to Occupy The Microphone and join Gorgeous Gregg, Daisy Deadhead and Double A as they take on the issues and news of the day.

Guest: Former Representative and Green Party candidate for President Cynthia McKinney.

The United Nations recently passed The Arms Trade Treaty which is being accused of being toothless, weak and is nonbinding. Critics charge that it will do nothing to stop or even slow the global arms trade which the United States, since the last six administrations, has led the world in arming unelected governments and dictators. U.S. advocacy groups 20 years ago started working on a similar treaty because they wanted to reduce the devastation of civil wars in developing nations. Cynthia McKinney was part of a Congressional effort along with late Senator Mark Hatfield but the Code of Conduct was rejected by Congress in the 1990s.

Laney Walker Supermarket in Augusta, Ga. closed it doors, but the owner agreed to turn over remaining food stock to a local pastor for distribution to the poor, needy and hungry. The pastor for unknown reasons did not pick up the food and the hundred or so people who showed up had to watch as the food was ordered by the new owners, SunTrust Bank, to be put into dumpsters and sent to the local landfill. Some people followed the trucks carrying the food to the landfill were law enforcement turned them away.
